Reflexology

Reflexology is a relaxing and effective therapy based on a concept that congestion or tension in the feet mirrors tension or congestion in the corresponding part of the body. It is an ancient therapy that mapped the whole body onto the feet allowing every area to be worked. It is said to have originated in China over 5000 years ago and is a massage of reflex areas on the feet. We don’t often treat the hands as the reflex points are the same but as we use our hands every day they are less sensitive. By working these areas on the feet the energy channels are unblocked and the body is encouraged to heal itself.
Specific parts of the soles, toes and sides of the feet represent organs and parts of the body and these correspond to each side of the body.
The treatment takes place lying down on my therapy couch. Specific parts of the soles, toes and sides of the feet represent organs and parts of the body and these correspond to each side of the body.

A reflexology treatment usually lasts an hour and my fingers and thumbs are used to apply gentle pressure to the feet as they work on reflex areas. Tiny deposits or imbalances are detected and by stimulating these areas the blockages can be released allowing energy to flow freely around the body. I may sense these blocks as crunchy areas and you may also experience sensations as the feet are worked. The treatment is very relaxing and many of my clients fall asleep. It is useful for a wide range of conditions and several sessions may be necessary to correct an imbalance although most people feel a benefit from a one off session.
